black-capped kingfisher
(
Halcyon pileata
) is a large
tree kingfisher
found throughout tropical Asia. First
described
by
Pieter Boddaert
in 1783, this species frequents coastal waters, particularly those with
mangroves
. It feeds primarily on insects.
